A background check is a process a person or company uses to verify that a person is who they claim to be, and provides an opportunity for someone to check a person’s criminal record, education, employment history, and other activities that happened in the past in order to confirm their validity. Whether you’re applying for a job, looking for a new apartment, or purchasing a firearm, you may have to undergo a background check.
Two kinds of erasure exist in the Belgian system: The real erasure is the disappearance of the conviction, and applies only to police sentences (small fines and 8 days of imprisonment or less). For all other sentences, a system of "no mention" applies, whereby the conviction remains recorded in the central system but is no longer available for access by several categories of people.[7]
Arrest Records are documents that contain an individual's arrest history. They are maintained by a number of government agencies at the federal, state, and local level, including local police departments, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and courts. Arrest Records contain an individual's arrests, arrest searches, inquiries, warrants, reports, logs, and mug shots.
Since the beginning of 2012, the data providing for the criminal records of Estonian citizens is available online. Any individual with a criminal record can access the electronic version of the database to receive this information for free. In order to view information pertaining to a non-related individual, then a fixed fee must be paid to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic. The individual's name and identification in number is also required to view their criminal record. However, there still remain some restrictions on access to this register, including protecting access to information on the criminal records of minors.[40]

Arrest records provided on this public website or through its interface pertain to individuals who have been charged with a crime as an adult. All named offenders are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. If expunged, the appropriate record(s) are removed. For information concerning the expungement process, visit: Police Records & Procedures
Our schools need the support of volunteers like you.  There may be a slight delay in processing background checks due to the backlog of pending background checks.  We appreciate you wanting to volunteer to help our students.  We can expedite background checks if requested by the school for an immediate need (upcoming field trip, class activity, etc.)  If your background check is still pending and you are needed for a school activity, contact the school and the school may request an expedited background check.  Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we appreciate you volunteering.

Go to your local police department where you reside or last resided in the United States, request that the police conduct a local or state criminal records search and provide you with a document reflecting that there is no history of a criminal record. Local police departments may require your personal appearance in order to conduct the search.  You should determine whether the country where you intend to use the records check requires that it be authenticated. For information on that process please see our authentications page.

Many courts haven’t digitized their criminal records yet, which means they aren’t available online. If the information is not online, then background check services can’t use web scraping software to collect criminal records from the court. In these instances, some services have a court runner service where they send a person to the courthouse to physically pull the public files. This person is a court runner, trained on digging through files and retrieving information.
Stalk anyone, ever. It should go without saying, but using background check services makes it far too easy for people step over the line. Remember, even if you’re trying to reconnect with an old friend or ex-lover, many people don’t want to be contacted and don't realize their contact information is out there. As such, you should never use the information to do the following:
There are three main types of prisons in the United States that divide prisoners based on their crimes: maximum, medium and minimum security. The prisons exist to punish offenders, deter people from committing crimes and also to rehabilitate the people within their walls. The prisoners in state prisons have a daily routine that mandates them to wake up at specified times, go to sleep at specified times and act according the prison rules. Some inmates perform work on the prison premises and many state prisons offer education and rehabilitation programs to prepare the inmates for life outside of the prison.
Access to criminal history summary records maintained by the DOJ is restricted by law to legitimate law enforcement purposes and authorized applicant agencies. However, individuals have the right to request a copy of their own criminal history record from the Department to review for accuracy and completeness. Requests from third parties are not authorized and will not be processed.
The Central Criminal Records Registry is not publicly accessible and therefore very few public agencies and no private agencies have access to it. This has been confirmed by the New Penal Code (1995) Art.136.4. Therefore, the Central Criminal Records Registry is only accessible to judges, public prosecutors and the judicial police for investigative purposes. Other cases where direct access can be granted include: Guardia Civil for gun permits and border control police. Besides judges, prosecutors and some police agencies, only the recorded subject may request a copy of their personal Conviction Record.[91]
When people hear “background check,” they usually think about the kind an employer or landlord runs before making a decision. The background check services we reviewed are different from those used to make rental, lending or hiring decisions. The Fair Credit Reporting Act, explained in further detail below, actually makes it illegal to use reports from the background check services we reviewed for any decisions related to potential employees, renters or borrowers. In fact, it would be illegal to use these background check reports to decide on which babysitter to hire.

Most prisons in the United States adhere to a daily routine the prisoners have to follow: morning alarm followed by breakfast, breaktime/work time, prayer time, time for prison and state programs, lunch, time off/work time, dinner and lights out. Each prison decides in which times during the day prisoners will perform the schedule above in accordance to the facility's security level, population and needs.

In fact, the service’s reports provide many of the basic pieces of information a background check should, including relatives, addresses, criminal history, court judgements, bankruptcies and assets. In addition, Intelius is one of the few background check services that lists educational history in its reports. This gives you another data point to use to get ahold of someone you’ve lost touch with. Intelius’ reports are easy to read and have a unique spider graph that shows how your subject is connected to relatives, jobs and other parts of their life. A background check through Intelius costs $49.95, which is the highest price we saw, though the company shares that distinction with several other services. A monthly subscription costs $29.95 and may be a better option. However, you need to remember to cancel your subscription when you are done using it. You can purchase a people search report, which doesn’t include information about criminal history and other legal matters, for $3.95. One of Intelius’ drawbacks is you can’t download the reports you purchase.

Background checks are often requested by employers on job candidates for employment screening, especially on candidates seeking a position that requires high security or a position of trust, such as in a school, courthouse, hospital, financial institution, airport, and government. These checks are traditionally administered by a government agency for a nominal fee, but can also be administered by private companies. Background checks can be expensive depending on the information requested. Results of a background check typically include past employment verification, credit history, and criminal history. The objective of background checks is to ensure the safety and security of the employees in the organisation. Peoples backgrounds can be something they are born into or born with for example being born into a religion or being born with a disability. They can also be developed over the course of someone's life that will affect them in the future[2]
